Next-generation polyurethane-based coating technology

PROTECTIVE COATING ACTS AS A SEMI-PERMEABLE MEMBRANE

Built on PurActive® Controlled-Release Technology

Multigreen® CRF are powered by PurActive® controlled-release technology, based on next-generation polyurethane chemistry. This technology forms a thin, flexible, and durable polymer-based coating around each fertiliser granule. This advanced protective coating foundation enables precise and predictable nutrient release under real field conditions.

Regulates water entry into the granule

Controls nutrient diffusion over time

Maintains coating integrity during handling & application

Durable Coating for Consistent Performance

Coating Thickness and Nutrient Longevity

Multigreen® fertiliser granules are uniformly coated with a protective layer engineered for controlled nutrient release. By adjusting the coating thickness allows release longevity to be precisely tailored to specific crop systems and growth stages.

Designed to resist physical stress during handling, transport, and mechanical application, the protective coating ensures Multigreen® CRF preserve their controlled-release performance and provide reliable nutrient delivery in the field.

Formulations designed for
• Prolonged release spanning multiple months
• Medium-term feeding to sustain crop development
• Short-term nutrient availability

Growers have the flexibility to align fertiliser choice with both crop demands and plantation management strategies.

How Multigreen® Nutrients Release Works

Multigreen® Controlled Release Fertilisers use a temperature-controlled diffusion mechanism to manage how nutrients are released in the soil. Rather than releasing nutrients all at once, the protective coating regulates nutrient movement based on soil temperature and coating thickness. This allows nutrient availability to adjust naturally with growing conditions, helping nutrients become available progressively and more in line with crop demand. The diagram below illustrates how this process occurs step by step after application.

01.

Soil moisture penetrates the semi-permeable protective coating after application.

02.

Encapsulated nutrients dissolve inside the coated granule but are not released immediately.

03.

Dissolved nutrients are released slowly through diffusion, regulated by soil temperature and coating thickness.

04.

After nutrients are released, the protective coating gradually breaks down through natural soil processes.

How Plants Receive Nutrients Over Time

This comparison illustrates how nutrient availability differs between conventional fertilisers and Multigreen® Controlled Release Fertilisers in relation to plant demand.
Multigreen® Controlled Release Fertilisers
Conventional Fertilisers
Multigreen® CRF release nutrients gradually and consistently over time:
  • Nutrient availability follows plant demand more closely.
  • Excess nutrient loss is reduced.
  • Fewer applications are required to maintain steady nutrition.

Conventional fertilisers release nutrients rapidly after each application. This often results in:

  • Nutrient levels exceeding plant demand shortly after application.
  • Increased risk of nutrient loss through leaching, volatilisation, or runoff.
  • Periods of insufficient nutrient availability between applications.

This leads to more efficient fertiliser use and more stable crop growth.

To compensate, multiple applications are typically required to maintain crop nutrition.

Key Outcomes of Steadier Nutrient Supply
Precise Nutrient Release

Release nutrient when plants need them. Not too much, not too less.

Improved Plant Growth

More consistent nutrient availability supports healthier plant development, stronger growth, and improved crop performance throughout the growing cycle.

Minimised Environmental Impact

Improved nutrient efficiency means less fertiliser is required overall, reducing waste and lowering the risk of nutrient runoff into surrounding waterways.

Cost Saving

Efficient nutrient delivery reduces fertiliser waste and repeat applications, helping lower input costs while saving labour in the field.

Designed for Challenging Soils and Terrain

Many growers operate on marginal soils and difficult terrain where conventional fertilisers struggle to perform. Nutrients are often lost to leaching, runoff, or erosion before crops can fully utilise them. Multigreen® CRF are designed to provide more reliable nutrition across these conditions.

Peat Soils

Peat soils often experience high rainfall and nutrient leaching. Controlled release helps reduce nutrient loss and retain nutrients longer in the root zone, improving uptake consistency.

Sandy Soils

Sandy soils have low nutrient and water retention. Controlled release reduces leaching and extends nutrient availability, supporting better root development.

Hilly Terrains

In areas prone to runoff and erosion, controlled release helps reduce nutrient loss and supports steadier feeding throughout the crop cycle.

Hyperacidity

As soil pH declines, excess H⁺ and Al³⁺ displace essential nutrients (Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺, K⁺) from exchange sites. Aluminium toxicity restricts root development, while displaced nutrients are easily leached, leading to poor fertility and reduced crop performance. Controlled release enhanced with silica improve nutrient use efficiency by reducing leaching losses.

Application Methods

Multigreen® Controlled Release Fertilisers are compatible with common agricultural practices and standard application equipment.

Planting Hole

Applied directly into the planting hole to provide steady nutrition during early plant establishment.

Broadcasting at Frond Stack

Broadcast along frond stacks to support gradual nutrient uptake in plantation systems.

Drone Application

Applied using agricultural drones for efficient distribution in large or difficult terrain.

Broadcasting at Plant’s Circle

Applied around the plant’s root zone to deliver consistent nutrition as roots develop.

Subsoil

Placed below the soil surface to improve nutrient availability and reduce surface losses.

Fertiliser Spreader

Applied using conventional spreaders for uniform coverage across large planting areas.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Multigreen® Controlled Release Fertilisers are fertilisers designed to release nutrients gradually over time. Instead of releasing all nutrients at once, the controlled-release coating allows nutrients to be supplied steadily, helping crops absorb them more efficiently.

Conventional fertilisers release nutrients quickly after application, which can lead to nutrient loss and uneven feeding. Multigreen® CRF release nutrients gradually, providing a more consistent nutrient supply that better matches crop demand and reduces waste.

The nutrient release period depends on the formulation and coating thickness. Multigreen® CRF are available with different longevities, ranging from short-term to extended release over several months. Longevity is measured based on the time taken for 85 percent of nutrients to be released at a soil temperature of 30°C.

Each fertiliser granule is coated with a protective layer that controls how water enters the granule and how nutrients diffuse out. This process regulates the rate of nutrient release, allowing nutrients to become available to plants gradually rather than all at once.

Yes. Multigreen® CRF are suitable for a wide range of soil types, including peat soils, sandy soils, and areas with hilly terrain. The controlled-release mechanism helps reduce nutrient losses in soils that are prone to leaching, runoff, or erosion.

Yes. By releasing nutrients gradually, Multigreen® CRF help reduce losses from leaching, volatilisation, and runoff. This improves nutrient use efficiency and supports more responsible fertiliser application.

Because nutrients are released steadily over time, fewer applications are typically required compared to conventional fertilisers. The exact number depends on crop type, growth stage, and the selected product longevity.

Multigreen® CRF can be applied using common agricultural methods, including planting hole application, broadcasting, fertiliser spreaders, subsoil placement, and drone application. This makes them compatible with standard farming practices and equipment.

The Premium Series consists of fully coated fertilisers designed for uniform nutrient release using ready-to-use formulations.

The Pro Series offers more flexibility, with custom-blend formulations, individually coated nutrients, and different nutrient release periods to suit specific crop stages and soil conditions.

Yes. By improving nutrient efficiency and reducing nutrient losses, Multigreen® CRF help support sustainable fertiliser use while maintaining crop productivity. This benefits both growers and the environment.

Choosing the right product depends on crop type, growth stage, soil condition, and desired nutrient longevity. Wastech’s technical team can help recommend the most suitable Multigreen® CRF formulation based on your specific needs.
